Futurium is an exhibition and event venue in the heart of Berlin, nestled between the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Spree-bogen and Humboldt-hafen, the main railway station, and the Charité hospital grounds. Within this ensemble, Futurium has developed its own unique sculptural form. Futurium is designed as an energy-plus building and has achieved BNB Gold status in sustainability ratings.
The butterfly-shaped unfolding of the building structure into urban landmarks gives Futurium its visual prominence between the Spree River and the elevated railway. Two squares have been created at the main access points on Alexanderufer and Kapelle-Ufer by setting back the building line.
A dot pattern covers the entire surface of the square, giving it its own unique character.
The façade consists of over 8,000 cassette elements. The 70×70 cm elements consist of differently folded metal reflectors and ceramic-printed cast glass. These create a changing cloud pattern that constantly changes with the incidence of light.
The new building serves as a venue for presentations and for promoting dialogue between research and development. Exhibitions and events highlight future-oriented developments of national and international significance.
